Hi All,
New user here (hello everyone!) and I've just had a Fox system installed in Scotland with the following:
20x Aiko 490w 9.8kW array
Fox ESS KH8 Inverter
Fox ESS CQ7 Batteries 21kWh
Fox EV Charger (L Series)
The system is producing well (had a decently sunny day today, hooray!), and charging and discharging the battery, but the EV charger is unfortunately using the battery to charge my car when i plug it in.
Now I've seen that there are threads about this, but what what I want to ask is why is it like this? It's clearly quite a sophisticated system, in full communication between the EV charger and the inverter, with solar linkage modes etc, so why isn't there just a setting for "never use battery for EV" ?? Or even "always use grid for EV". Is there a technical reason it can't do this? I'm pretty sure other venders integrated chargers can do this.
I'll need to get this sorted one way or the other and it can't involve micromanaging it with home assistant etc.
Have a look at where your CT clamps are. My inverter cannot see my car charger, and so when I charge it's just sees any solar surplus. I believe you'll want your CT clamp of your evse after the one for your battery/inverter to make sure they can't see it.
7.36kWp solar array made of 16x Jinko Tiger Neo 460w panels. 8 ESE, 8 WNW facing, Fox EVO 10kWh with 10kW inverter. Installed April 2026. Running ModBus via Elfin EW11A, learning Home Assistant
My EV charger and solar system are both in a detached garage and travel over the same cable making that not possible. If we moved the CT away from the EV charger it would also not see the house load.
I just have no idea why the system can’t do this in software. It knows the house load, it already knows how much the EV charger is drawing. What’s the point in integrating the two if they don’t use the data to let you configure the system?
