KH inverter USB to Modbus connection query

I have seen on the forum the strong advice that when using the H1 inverter one should avoid the USB port connection for attaching the Modbus. My install will have the KH 8kwh inverter which also has a USB connection. Does the same advice apply to this model regarding the limitations the USB connection imposes on parts of the data transfer. The manual states that the terminal is WiFi / 4G /USB if that is anything to go by. Many thanks for any thoughts on this.

sadly yes, the USB on fox inverters is amp limited to a point you can't really use it as a power source.

Is this always the case Will? I've been running my Elfin EW11A without issue for a year using the inverter USB as the power source on my H1-5.0-E. It hasn't skipped a beat! It is only using about 0.14A though at 5V, so not much.

Technically, fox advises not to power anything from the usb as it's there for firmware updates or the datalogger, depending on the model. If it works, then great, but I don't ever recommend it for net new people.
