Hi,

Firstly, hello, I am a new user, having had a 16 panel, FOX ESS 11 and Zappi 7w car charger installed in the East of England and looking forward to getting the most from my investment. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction please?

I've had a search of the forums but can't readily see how to configure things such that the battery is not used at certain times and then in the reverse, use the battery at certain times.

I have a tariff that provides cheaper energy between 02.00 at 05.00, so I'd like to use the grid to run washing machine and dishwasher during this period and prevent use of any power from the battery. And in the reverse, there is a more expensive period between 17.00 and 19.00, so I'd like to use the battery during this time.

I think that I can add schedules to do this, but I'm not too clear on what the 'Work Model' should be set to to achieve the above?

The schedules way will depend on which model of inverter you have and whether you have 'Backup' in the available list of work modes.

If you don't want to get into the complexity of schedules (and only need 2 periods), the basic charge periods will do what you need.

1). If you set a charge period between 02:00-05:00 with charge from grid enabled that will take care of the charge during your low tariff.

2). If you want to avoid the battery discharging between certain time periods you can set a second charge period but leave charge from grid disabled. That will stop all battery discharge in that 'charge' period.

On workmodes, if the inverter is in Self-use workmode it will default to charging the batteries first before exporting.

If the inverter is in Feed-in First it will export solar in priority to charging the battery.

If the inverter has backup mode it is basically doing what (2) above does i.e. holding battery SoC and not allowing discharge.

House load is always covered first by solar generation whichever work mode you are in - so in other words in the absence of solar the battery will cover all house load (unless you have set a charge period as in 2)


If you want to set more than 2 periods you will have to use scheduler, let me know if that is the case and i'll ellaborate what is needed there (but can you confirm you inverter model H1/KH/H3 etc.. and whether you see a 'backup' workmode).

If you get your firmware updated to the very latest you will get backup mode added - either ask your installer or raise a support ticket to Fox in the V2 app, ‘Me’, ‘Contact Us’, Support and ask for the inverter firmware to be updated.

Then you’ll have the option of using the scheduler as and when your needs get more complex.

Just to update - I have had the firmware updated, it is now Master 1.31, Slave 1.02 & ARM 1.48 - This has given me work modes Self Use, Feed In Priority, Back Up & Peak Shaving
