New Setup, External Equipment, Where to start?

Hi All,

I'm trying to wrap my head around what I need to get HA/Modbus up and running. I have my HA setup already running and would like to add Modbus to the fold but I'm falling over on what I need to purchase.

I have read the Github FAQ over a few times but I think my setup complicates things (or could just be me overthinking)

All my equipment is external, I have a KH10 Inverter. There is power on the other side of the wall to where the install is so can drill a hole for that but what cables should I be running?

Here is where my knowledge is failing.

Outside (Inverter -> Wiring??) Inside ( -> USR-TCP-410s -> ethernet to homeplug -> HA Box )

As the wiring would be going external should I use a certain cable? For this it could also need to be upto 3M in length as might want to locate in a nearby cupboard. Router is on the other side of the house so no easy to just run an ethernet cable.
I like the USR-TCP-410s as it can just be plugged in without exposed wires like the Elfin unless I am missing something with this?

Picture is of the inverter. Image

All help much appreciated.

Cheers

The cable from the inverter to the adaptor is RS485, which can run over twisted pair cable - the more distance you run the more you should consider a better quality of cable but for 3 metres you can comfortably use bell wire, speaker cable or similar - ideally over very long distance or (electrically) noisy environments it should be cat 5/6 cable and you cut the ends off and use 1 of the twisted pairs within but the cores are fiddly to handle.

I have a set-up where the inverter and battery are both outside. I've recently connected a Modbus Waveshare RS485 TO POE ETH (B) adapter. I used Cat6 ethernet cable. It was really simple to wire a twisted pair into the inverter connector, run the cable up the external wall, through the soffit, and into the left where my network switch is located.
