Hey
Can the end user apply firmware updates?

Only if you have agent access to the Foxcloud - most owners are ‘end users’
It’s easily done by your installer remotely, if you’re not getting a response from them you can raise a support ticket in the app ‘Me’, ‘Contact Us’, ‘Support’

Cheers how can I find out what firmware my battery and inverter are on currently?
And what happens if he retires? Or stops doing solar?

I offer a remote service, should you wish to switch installers and continue to manage your system.
If your installer stops trading and you contact fox, they'll direct you to one of their registered installers like myself.

I can thoroughly recommend Will’s remote service, you won’t get better - sometimes it’s as important to know what to install as well as when not to.
On your firmware if you go to the ‘Device’ page of your app, click on ‘Inverter’ and click on the serial number just below the picture of the inverter, that will give you your Master, Slave and Manager(ARM) versions - likewise if you click on battery it will show the BMS version.
If you post the versions here (and your inverter / battery model), I can look up the latest firmware for you.

I’m guessing an H1 (Gen2) and an EP battery ?, in which case it’s reasonably up to date
Latest for H1(G2) -
Master: 1.40
Slave: 1.04
Manager: 1.56
Latest EP battery : 1.007

Good to know thanks.
When the devices are updated does it tell the end user?

The inverter will restart when Master is updated but other than that the only way to tell is to check back every day until the version numbers change.
