Power Cut Protection - Gateway with full home backup?

Hi,

So far since having the new solar panels and batteries installed, the house has experienced over 10 power cuts lasting from a few minutes to several hours (Grid have been told). While the system is capable of running off grid on solar power alone given the large number of panels I have, it's still a manual process to flip the isolator switch to run in off grid mode.

Does FOX offer or is planning to release a supported Gateway module to allow for automatic switch over to solar and batteries in the event of a grid failure? For example if away on holiday I'd like to know that the house and fridge / freezer etc is protected with an automatic failover if there is such a device?

Has anyone had any luck with 3rd party hardware and if so can they recommend something? Happy to pay my electrician to install something but not sure where to start with this and will it negate any warranty?

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Here in Sweden this is becoming increasingly common, especially in installations out in the countryside.

There are many (around 170, if I remember correctly) different grid owners in our country, and each of them has their own rules regarding island operation mode (please correct me if there’s a better term).

A major requirement among most grid owners is that you need to report such an installation to the company, including a schematic of the setup, and ensure it has a separate grounding.

In most cases (depending on inverter type, battery capacity, and the condition of the house wiring), a smaller distribution board with the necessary (depending on battery size) equipment connected is recommended, including relay breaker that switch to backup power if the grid fails. And, as mentioned, with its own grounding.

I assume this varies from country to country, but for an electrician it’s a fairly straightforward installation.

At least H3-models have built in functionality for backup usage.
