H1-5.0-E-2 ‘bricked’ by firmware update….

So 2 weeks ago Fox ESS pushed Manager 1.62 to my H1-5.0-G2-E without any request - this (hopefully an isolated case) “bricked” my inverter - with a CIO fault code and the other two firmware versions showing as 0.00 - previous versions were :

Fox ESS H1-5.0-E-G2 Firmware - Master: 1.31 Slave: 1.03 Manager: 1.48
Fox ESS ESC 2900-H4 Cube Battery - Master plus 3 Slaves - All V2 - 11.52kWh Firmware - Master: 2.002 All Slaves : 1.13

It’s still online in Fox cloud and three more remote tries with full system rebooted in between and further efforts using supplied files via USB stick also failed (the latter saying cannot read file or something similar despite correct stick type/format, directory structure and file names. Also tried 2 different USB sticks).

I had a replacement inverter delivered yesterday directly from Fox ESS under warranty, and my installer is coming to swap out on Monday morning.

However, it’s a newer H1-G2 with built in WiFi. Fox ESS support recommend using the original dongle to maintain plant history data etc. and there is still a port for it.

Good news that 1.62 removes the PV clipping when battery SoC reaches 100% issue though- this is an issue that I’ve been “in discussion with Fox ESS" with for some time now.

@Will - are you able to confirm that’s this is the correct approach please? Additionally, am I likely to be able to then connect the inbuilt WiFi to a second/new Fox cloud account and set myself up an Installer account to manager firmware myself? ;)

For others reading, when the firmware install fails, you need to reinstall the missing firmware. Normally, starting with slave firmware, then master, then manager normally resolves.

As for your data logger, I would personally lose the historical data and use the new logger if its the newer model logger.
Simply add it to site under devices and then connect it to the wifi following my video here:

Thanks Will - it turned out that using the old W4 datalogger alongside the (unconfigured) inbuilt wifi has proved flaky at best. I've now swapped over to the newer inbuilt wifi/datalogger as recommended.....

Hi Jim,

I'm swapping a customers inverter this week that the charging relay has failed within.
Fox have provided an H1-3.7-gen2-WL with a big sticker saying "no wifi". Just wondering if your Gen2 WL still states no wifi on the box even though it has integrated wifi.

Following on from our DM, it does include an integrated wifi unit even though the outside says no wifi.

Yup - my replacement is the same - strange box label - perhaps it means no WiFi dongle included/needed?
