strange behaviour following rumbles of thunder.....

heard a few rumbles of thunder in the distance and it seems our system may have commenced switching over to emergency supply....it was literally the blink of an eye - not enough for a full switchover and only enough for one of my UPS's to emit a very short beep (not even long enough for that to switch in fact)....a few seconds later I noticed we were importing 100% from the grid with zero being supplied by the battery......over the next 5 mins or so the grid import gradually reduced as the battery increased to from 0% - 100%......is that normal ???

I imagine you will have some errors that show lost utility, but it sounds like it recovered quickly - although the inverter takes a few minutes to run through it’s checking/waiting sequence after an even.
I think a lot depends on how the local power lines run near you, i’ve never known my system (in 5 years) to trip because of lightning but I have heard of others that are more susceptible to it because of the way the power is distributed over ground, in some cases they have fitted an SPD (surge protection) which protect against large fast transients such as you get from lightning strikes.

thanks....being rural, we are all overhead fed
They did fit an SPD into the gateway unit when they installed the solar and another one into the EV takeoff consumer unit
we used to have a single RCD protecting the whole house and that tripped out if there was a storm pretty much anywhere in the country

or if a fly farted in the room

but have done away with that as we have RCBO's on every circuit
There were the usual errors : grid voltage/grid frequency etc...
