prioritising tesla wall connector on HA over battery charging on self use mode
hi
I've spent a week and setup HA automating surplus solar to go to tesla first (by altering the Tesla amperage by HA) but every time it kicks in, fox keeps fighting it and tries to prioritise battery over Tesla. Is there any mode you can introduce on fox so that it does not "fight" HA?

What happens if you set the Fox inverter to charge or discharge at 1W?

What work mode is the Inverter in when it is fighting your Tesla charger?

ETA: I do see the work mode listed in the thread title, and Self-use will always try to fill up your battery.
It should respect the house demand though, and depending on how you have the Tesla charger wired up, it will either see the load or it will be invisible.
Re: prioritising tesla wall connector on HA over battery charging on self use mode
thanks for the replies
yes, it's in self use mode
wrt "What happens if you set the Fox inverter to charge or discharge at 1W?" - should I try that on self use mode setting? is that through another mode?

sorry I thought I set the email notification for these replies but for some reason didn't get it so just saw your replies..

it's weird, it works beautifully for a few minutes then the next time I check, it's back to just prioritising charging the battery..

it's really annoying coz we are in and out of the house so we really wanted to maximise the use of the surplus solar to prioritise while the car's plugged into teslas wall connector.

Just set work mode to schedule and make a new schedule for the time you don't want the battery to fight your Tesla.

thanks for all the replies..
unfortunately i'm not sure if forced discharge for a certain window in mode scheduler will work in my scenario.
i'm regretting not getting a zappi charger in the first instance - i had high hopes that i'd be able to achieve the same thing with surplus solar charging using HA but it doesn't seem possible at this stage.

See, what i'm trying to achieve is purely surplus solar charging during the day when battery is not 100% yet. Zappi deals with cloud passover so effectively with CT clamps that it will ramp up and down charging amps to EVs when cloud passes over. With Fox, I set up HA to calculate PV production - home load and whatever is residual to feed my tesla wall connector (TWC) for this purpose. It does this every 30 seconds. Although initially it would work very well under self consumption mode of Fox, soon after Fox inverter fights this HA script and tries to charge the battery as a priority rather than TWC when there is surplus.

if i set e.g. forced discharge to 1w between say 10:30am to 3:00pm when there is sure to be surplus to charge the TWC (3 phase, so minimum 3.6kw required to initiate charging, otherwise HA programmed to switch off charging) to force the fox to NOT charge the battery, this does send the surplus (ramping up and down according to cloud pass) to TWC but then i have another problem (yes, it's never ending..) - when there's more than what TWC can suck from fox (max 16amp on 240v in australia, so max power draw about 11.5kwh) then it does not charge the battery with that residual.

i don't even know whether i'm making sense to you with all this but it's a complex problem that keeps going around the loop and I can't really grasp it all with my HA. I just wish Fox created another "mode" that prioritises self consumption as current but somehow does not "fight" HA code... it that even possible?
Re: prioritising tesla wall connector on HA over battery charging on self use mode
If you are running HA to control your Inverter, you of course must make sure you are not running any scheduling on your Fox Inverter from their control methods (which hopefully you know)

If you are setting your inverter by HA control, then change the work mode of your Inverter to "feed-in" which means it will change how it uses the PV power.

Self-use:
PV->Load->Battery->Export (So it is trying to always charge your battery before the power is spare, hence your fight)

Feed-in:
PV->Load->Export->Battery (In this mode it prioritises exporting to grid, this is your spare energy you can take for TWC)

Step 1: You must make sure that Fox has NO control over your system, so please check all schedules are off.
Step 2: Depending on how your TWC is wired up to your home, we need to know if your Fox Inverter can see it's load or not? If it can see the load, then this is not the best, but does decide how HA automation is programmed.
