Wrong system reading and battery in idle
Hi,
I've had the panels and a battery installed around a month ago and have waited until first bill to confirm my theory. The system seems to use the power from the panels well, however during the night and early morning the power comes from the grid but is registered as export. It best shows as we have an immersion heater to work between 4-6am. When panels don't generate power the system draws from the grid and ignores the battery and it is only dropping 1 or 2% and goes back to full after short while. Only works on forced charge/discharge.
I have checked the CT clamp and it's arrow is facing towards the house.

Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
What does your power flow show your house load to be on the first page of the app ?, particularly when the panels are generating.

It certainly sounds like a CT problem, either it has become disabled in settings, or is reversed in it’s fitting. - note the arrow direction is irrelevant if the cable polarity has been reversed in the meter connector (a common issue).
Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
Haven't got a picture from a core day but that's showing now. I have asked the question to my installer awaiting a reply from them of somebody to come over to have a look at it.

Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
The CT is working as it’s reporting your house load, it is however reversed, there is an option within the inverter settings that allows you to reverse it (your installer can do this remotely with their installer access) - but easier would be to un-clip it, it will roll open then refit with the arrow facing the opposite direction.
Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
Reversed the clamo and it seems to be fine now. Great thanks for your help!

Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
Great, looks like a bit of sun today as well, so hopefully get your battery charged too 8-)
Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
Is it normal for a base load ti be at 3.5-4kw? I've tried switching off eveyrthing in the house but didn't make a difference. Would it be setting with the inverter or ct clamp?

Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
If you are sure everything is off, no it’s not normal.

There are no settings for the CT clamp other than enable/disable and reverse - as you reversed it originally because it was reading negative loads it looks likely that the CT clamp may be either located incorrectly or the CT clamp used is not the correct ratio for the Fox system.

Just want to double check this is a single phase system ?

It would be helpful to see the graph you see when you click daily production off the main screen - that shows charge/discharge/pv and load together and you can also see the affect on battery soc.

To start with the location the CT clamp should be clipped to the live feed from your smart meter and under normal conditions the arrow should be pointing towards the grid (but as already said if the cores are crossed in the connector this isn’t guaranteed), can you confirm where it is located please.
Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
Yes, it is single phase. My understanding is that base load looks ok until battery is starting to discharge or panels starting to produce during the day. CT clamp is on the Live cable just before it goes intk the house to the fuse board. I will speak to the i staller tomorrow to see if they can send someone to have a look if it's all set up properly.

Re: Wrong system reading and battery in idle
I would start by reversing the CT clamp direction again, it’s dumping the battery to the grid the moment it detects solar which confirms the direction is wrong and is wasting your energy - there is clearly another problem that is giving you negative load figures.

There’s a cable that runs out of the Henley block (black connector at the top) and down and exits the box at the bottom is that an EV charger or is it the connection to the Fox inverter ?.

Agreed get your installer back, there is an installer setting the allows the inverter to reverse the CT ‘sign’ if it thinks it is wrong and that should be disabled but the install needs to be checked to verify the power flows and CT positioning.
