Hello all,
Total solar n00b here, I had 10 panels + F5000G3 inverter fitted last week and puzzled why the FoxApp 2.0 wasn't giving me load/export figures etc. I found where the export total is on my Elster SMETS1 meter (Octopus) but the installers didn't tell me what else I'd need for data collection. Other friends with panels have been telling me about CT clamps and Smart Meters, Shelly kit and that sort of thing so I'm wondering what you all use?
CT clamp might be an issue because my Elster is at the front of the house while the inverter is at the back which would be a long cable path and I believe the total length of a CT cable can only be 10m.
Spent yesterday wrestling with Homeassistant/HACS and Foxess Cloud and got it working, but I believe I could get better results from the wifi dataloggers on my system - for some reason I have two, a WW and a WF-3.
Any hints and tips appreciated!
Cheers
As a solar only inverter the F series doesn't provide load metrics, you can fit a CT clamp to the inverter and it would then be able to calculate the load, grid consumption, export etc.. - whereas without it, it can only tell you what it is producing.
If you fit the optional CT clamp (it's not a big expense ~£20 but obviously needs cabling between the inverters meter connector and the incoming live feed of your smart meter where the clamp will be fitted).
In some respects i'd agree the best way to do this (as long if you have the skill/resources/time) is via home assistant and use a Shelly to work out what your grid power is, then you can work out the actual load consumption, inverter export etc..

Hi Dave,
Yes, I discovered while that post was waiting for moderation that the F-series doesn't do modbus. I'm getting batteries eventually but only once I've saved up for them. Export in the meanwhile.
Shelly it is then, just need to work out which one
It might take a few months to save up for a battery and hybrid inverter so I might as well have some data to play with in the meanwhile.
Cheers
Adrian
