I have a ESS H1 G2 inverter and an ethernet dongle (the in built wlan in the inverter didn't seem to connect to wifi very well).
The ethernet connection was working fine until the weekend, when I had to recreate my home WLAN.
I thought it would just automatically reconnect with the web, but it hasn't. I've had to resort to the flaky wifi (I did this by "removing" the dongle via the app and re-adding it - but when adding the dongle through the app it only offered connection via wifi).
Does anyone know how to force it to use the ethernet cable?
Have you restarted the Inverter to see if it picks up the LAN cable?
Not yet. Will get in touch with installers to see how to do this. I did flick an isolation knob, but that didn't turn off the inverter...
Unfortunately after following this, which did turn off the inverter, it is still connecting using the inbuilt wlan network card rather than the ethernet cable from the attached dongle.
I tried to force its hand by blocking the inverter wlan using the app which controls my mesh units, but it didn't start to use the ethernet cable then either.
Any other suggestions?

Not sure if this exactly maps to your problem but I had a similar issue where the Ethernet link would sometimes drop on my H1 G2 6kW 1ph inverter. This caused all modbus activity to freeze. The only fix I found was to unplug and then reconnect the RJ45 cable. I opened a thread on here from a few weeks ago looking for assistance myself. In the end I wrote a script for home assistant to monitor the link at the switch level and bounce the port if the link is frozen.
