Adding an extra EP5 battery
Hello,
I currently have an H1 (G2) 5kw inverter with an EP5 battery and would like to increase capacity and add another battery.

Do I simply discharge the current battery to around 40% and connect up via the junction box and power everything back up as per the installation instructions?

Will the inverter see that there is an extra battery and can you tell me how to check firmware as I read I have to ensure that the firmwares are all the same.
Re: Adding an extra EP5 battery
New batteries are usually provided at approx 50% SoC so it would be better to be closer to that when you add the new battery.

If you follow the installation instructions, make sure your system is powered off before starting - and particularly take care with the Link In / Out configuration (as per the guide) and also the location of the terminator (parallel plug or H2 as it is called in the guides) which will be in the last batteries Link Out. The DC cables simply connect to the junction box and make sure you connect the ground cables.

It may take a few 100% charge cycles before the batteries are fully balanced but as long as you make sure you are at ~ 50% SoC it should be done very quickly.
Re: Adding an extra EP5 battery
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your helpful reply. It does seem fairly straight forward process to hook up and you answered my query about the inverter will automatically recognise an extra battery being added.
Do you know how to check and also update the firmware of the system? I read somewhere, maybe on here that it is important that they are all the same. Have you heard of this at all?
Re: Adding an extra EP5 battery
The EP5 is quite new and so there are only a handful of versions but you should still make sure the firmware is the same on all batteries to maintain consistency over time.

With the EP5 there is only a single version to check (as it contains both controller and manager in a single version), on the V2 app go to 'Device', select the Battery and click on the battery serial number just below the picture - and it at the bottom will be Version_BMS which is the battery firmware version.

The latest release for EP5 is 1.007 but it's more important that they are all running the same version than the absolute latest - to upgrade the firmware either contact your installer or raise a ticket with Fox in the app click 'Me'. 'Contact Us', 'Support' and in the description say you have added additional batteries and need them to be upgraded to the latest firmware.
