we had our solar system installed by use the sun ltd on april but they don't seam to have configured themselfs as the installer.
how do i go about getting updates in this situation can I create an installer account with ESS and then manage my own firmware?
I sorted myself I created an agent account an worked out how to link it to the enduser account.
I have pushed my firmwares now

If you go back to the login page, sign up, choose Agent as the account type (you might have to use the old V1 signup process), you can use a second email address to make a new account.
The best way to "adopt" is using the App I found. Top-right menu in the app, there's an "Installer" option that basically creates a link you are supposed to share with an installer/agent to adopt your account. If you log in to your new Agent account on a PC, then visit that link, you should be able to link your End-User account (containing your inverter, battery etc) to your new Agent account.
Once you've done this, everything (firmware, normal data viewing, settings etc) can be done from your Agent account, you won't really need to log in to your end user account again.
It did take a bit of clicking around to find the right option but that's the gist.
Alternatively, if you just want to do a firmware upgrade or something, you could just ask Fox Support, they are quite responsive for simple stuff like that it seems.
